WASHINGTON - On the outside but looking in at the A-10 standings, the George Washington baseball team travels to St. Bonaventure this weekend for a three-game series that will conclude the 2023 regular season. GW trails VCU by 2.5 games entering the weekend for the seventh and final spot in the standings to qualify for next week's A-10 Championship in Richmond. The three-game series with the Bonnies begins Thursday at 2 p.m. on ESPN+, with Friday's game slated for 2 p.m. as well and the series finale Saturday at noon on ESPN+.
CLASS OF 2023
Nine GW ballplayers were the first in the Class of 2023 to graduate from GW yesterday, as Steve DiTomaso, Anthony Frechette, Connor Harris, Chris Knight, Logan Koester, Michael Kohn, Logan Leax, Noah Levin and Austin Odell partook in Special Athletics Commencement as they'll miss Commencement exercises while traveling this weekend. Also yesterday, Frechette and Levin were honored as Academic All-District Team members.
MVP MICHELETTI
Last week it was announced that junior rightfielder Eddie Michelleti is the Buff and Blue's 2023 MVP. This weekend, Micheletti looks to secure the title of A-10 hits champion. Entering Thursday's game, The Mick has 81 hits to his credit this year, seven clear of the second-place batsmen. DiTomaso ranks fifth in the conference with his 70 hits.
SCOUTING ST. BONAVENTURE
The Bonnies bring up the rear of the A-10 this season with their 5-16 league mark, tied with UMass at the bottom of the Atlantic 10 standings. They are not without talent, however, as Liam Devine is arguably the league's best stopper, with an A-10 best five saves on the season, and a 4.29 ERA that ranks sixth in the conference. He has struck out nearly a batter per inning with 47 Ks in 50.1 innings pitched.
