NO BAG POLICY
The Charles E. Smith Center implemented a no bags policy ahead of the 2025-26 season to enhance the safety of all guests and to better align GW events with venue management best practices.
Medical bags, and parenting bags no larger than 16” x 16” x 8” will be allowed and are subject to security screening.
GW Athletics reserves the right to refuse any item that may pose a safety risk, disrupt the event, or violate venue policies or the list of prohibited items.
The Charles E. Smith Center will not check or store prohibited items under any circumstances. Guests are encouraged to plan accordingly before arriving at the venue.
PERMITTED BAGS INCLUDE (all subject to search and inspection):
- Small clutch bags no larger than 5” x 7" x ¾”
- Diaper bags no larger than 16" x 16" x 8"
- ADA/Medical bags
BAGS THAT ARE PROHIBITED:
- Backpacks
- Tote bags
- Gym/duffel bags
- Fanny packs
- Laptop bags or briefcases
- Camera bags or large cases
- Luggage
- Drawstring bags
- Purses
OTHER PROHIBITED ITEMS INCLUDE:
- Weapons of any kind (including, without limitation, guns, knives, chains, spikes, projectiles, tasers, mace/pepper spray)
- Balloons
- Cans, bottles, or coolers
- Outside food and beverages
- Glass water bottles
- Illegal drugs or drug paraphernalia
- Gambling paraphernalia
- Laser pointers or laser pens
- Monopods, tripods, or poles
- Selfie sticks, selfie lights, or other detachable lighting equipment
- Noisemakers (air horns, sirens, kazoos, whistles — Birdie personal safety alarms are allowed)
- Animals (except service animals)
- Wrapped gifts or packages
- Video and audio recording devices (except cell phones and small point-and-shoot cameras)
- Non-collapsible umbrellas
- Flags, banners, or signs
- Any other item deemed inappropriate by the event or facility management team
PLAN AHEAD:
There will be no bag check or storage options available on-site. We encourage everyone to travel light and bring only what’s necessary. Frequently asked questions regarding the policy are here.
