External Relations
The Athletics Communications Department acts as a liaison between the Department of Athletics and the media inside and outside the University community. But that is just one of many responsibilities handled by Athletics Communications.
In addition to this website, Athletics Communications publishes several forms of athletics-related communicative materials including online virtual guides, game programs, preseason and postseason guides, a basketball yearbook and keeps all statistical and historical records for GW's 20 varsity sports.
Athletic Fundraising Organization: The Buff and Blue Fund is the organization officially recognized by George Washington University as the fundraising arm for the Athletics Department.Â
All athletic fundraising activities are maintained under the control and direction of the Buff and Blue Fund and must be coordinated with GW University Development and Alumni Relations (DAR).
The Buff and Blue Fund is committed to providing resources for our student-athletes in order to allow them to excel in the classroom as well as in competition. We will build our brand by providing financial support while honoring legacies of the past as we propel into the future. Our mission is accomplished by cultivating, soliciting and stewarding members of the
community, friends and alumni of George Washington University Athletics.
Sports fans have also enjoyed attending indoor tennis tournaments, USA Women's Basketball games, as well as many camps facilitated by GW coaches and staff. The Smith Center is also available to host smaller scale events in our two club rooms: The Tin Tabernacle Club and Champions Club. Whether it is a meeting for 10 or a sit-down lunch for 75, these premier club rooms can suit your needs. For more information about hosting an event, big or small, at the Smith Center, please e-mail athsched@gwu.edu. The Smith Center is a landmark and cornerstone of The George Washington University. Come see what happens here for yourself!

The GW Sports Marketing Office oversees Branding and Graphic Design, Multimedia and Broadcast Services, Special Events, On-Campus Engagement, and GW Athletics Licensing and Trademarks. GW Sports Marketing works to build community around GW Athletics by collaborating with campus groups, partnering with local businesses and corporate sponsors, and engaging with external supporters to create a sense of school spirit and shared experiences around GW Athletics contests and events. We strive to increase attendance, build fan affinity, and ultimately generate revenue that can be used to further support the student-athlete experience.
GW Sports Marketing is responsible for maintaining the visual identity of the GW Athletics brand and all of its trademarks. We provide a variety of creative services from graphic design to video production and assist our teams and coaches with advancing the GW brand in-venue, on the recruiting trail, and across all digital and social media platforms. In addition, we oversee the GW Athletics Licensing and Trademarks Program, which regulates and protects the commercial use of GW’s federally, trademarked names and marks. To request a graphic design or video project, please email gwpromos@gwu.edu.
Finally, GW Sports Marketing oversees the GW Spirit Teams, which consists of the GW Cheer Team, GW First Ladies Dance Team, C-Brass Pep Band, George's Army student fan group, and GW George Mascot. These groups work together to create an exceptional fan experience at ticketed GW Athletics contests, and to promote school spirit on campus and beyond. To request an appearance by one of these groups, please email gwpromos@gwu.edu.
If you or your company is interested in advertising and sponsorship opportunities with GW Athletics, please contact Graham Dunn with Bullpen Strategies at graham@bullpenstrategy.com.

The Athletics Ticket Office is responsible for all ticket sales and ticket operations aspects for the Athletics Department. All ticket sales and operational activities fall under the Ticket Office for GW Athletics five ticketed sports: Men's and Women's Basketball, Baseball, Gymnastics and Volleyball.
The Ticket Office is committed to generating revenue to assist in providing resources for our student-athletes in order to allow them to excel in the classroom as well as in competition. Our mission is accomplished by growing new GW fans, providing monumental experiences, value and customer service.
The Charles E. Smith Center has served as the home of the George Washington University Department of The Department of Athletics for more than 30 years. The facility's primary purpose is housing the majority of GW's 20 intercollegiate varsity sports. Men's and Women's Basketball, Volleyball, Gymnastics, Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving, and Men's Water Polo play all of their home games at the Charles E. Smith Center. In addition to hosting varsity athletics, the Smith Center houses practice space for club sports, classroom space for Exercise Science classes, and office space for The Department of Athletics. In 2008, the Smith Center started a three-year renovation project stimulated by a $10 million donation from the Robert H. Smith Family Foundation, the Charles E. Smith Family Foundation, and Robert P. and Arlene R. Kogod. The renovation, which was completed in May 2011, has transformed the Smith Center into a first-class facility, worthy of housing our hard-working student athletes. Along with the intercollegiate sport events that occur, the Smith Center has also hosted many major events and concerts throughout the years. In the past, popular artists such as Bob Dylan, Maroon 5, Ben Folds, The Beach Boys, the Black-Eyed Peas, Ray Charles and Patti LaBelle have performed at Smith Center as well as comedians Bill Cosby, Dana Carvey, David Spade, Jay Leno, Jon Stewart, Whoopi Goldberg, Robin Williams, Jerry Seinfeld, Jimmy Fallon and the late George Carlin. The Ticket Office is committed to generating revenue to assist in providing resources for our student-athletes in order to allow them to excel in the classroom as well as in competition.
