Baseball Beats Georgetown, 10-9

ARLINGTON, Va. – GW baseball escaped a high-scoring midweek matchup vs. Georgetown, beating the Hoyas at Tucker Field on Wednesday, 10-9. The Revolutionaries improved to 5-6 overall as they continue the homestand this weekend with three games vs. Yale.
The D.C. rivals each erupted in the third inning, as both teams scored the majority of their runs in the frame. After the Hoyas plated five in the top of the third, GW matched and more with seven runs to grab the lead. Three Revolutionaries homered in the inning: Robbie Lavey and Charlie Walsh with solo shots, and Conlon Walker with a three-run blast. Cristino Tufano also joined in with an RBI triple, later scoring on a wild pitch.
Georgetown tied the game in the top of the fourth, but GW regained the lead with runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh to go up 10-7. Georgetown made it 10-9 with two runs in the eighth, but the Hoyas were not able to take advantage of a one-out walk in the ninth as GW clinched its fourth-straight win.
Both sides pitched by committee as GW featured seven pitchers and Georgetown threw six. The win went to Drew Harris (1-1), while Colin Lebel earned the save (1) and Marshall Whitmer took the loss (0-2). Three GW pitchers submitted scoreless appearances, including Matt Bruno who made the start, Reese Crochet and Henry Knighton.
Lavey, Walker and Brodie Freker tied for a game-high three hits. Seven different Revolutionaries had hits for extra bases as GW totaled a season high with 16 hits. Each of the last three matchups between GW and Georgetown have now been decided by one run.
GW is back at The Tuck this weekend for a three-game series vs. Yale. Game one vs. the Bulldogs is scheduled for Friday at 2:30 p.m.
