GW baseball alums Steve DiTomaso and Connor Harris will continue their professional career during the 2027 season, both being selected by the Savannah Bananas in the 2027 Banana Ball Draft.
Harris returns to the Bananas for his second season after spending 2026 with the viral franchise. He was selected with the fifth pick in the fourth round, up from his eighth-round selection in 2026. Harris tossed 25.2 innings, including 20 strikeouts, across 22 appearances with the Bananas out of the bullpen. His collegiate career with GW spanned from 2020-23, appearing in 36 games and making 22 starts.
"Last year, I got to experience the Savannah Bananas for the first time, and it turned out to be a dream I never knew I had," said Harris. "This year, I get to live that dream all over again with my best friend."
DiTomaso's GW career spanned five seasons from 2020-24, playing four years alongside Harris at Tucker Field. DiTomaso's career was highlighted by becoming the program's all-time leader in career at bats (905), while also finishing second in career hits (205), third in games played (215) and fifth in triples (11).
Following his collegiate career, DiTomaso spent two seasons with the Down East Bird Dawgs of the Frontier League, playing in 176 games in 2025 and 2026, and earning two All-Star selections. He made history in 2026 by becoming the Frontier League's all-time leader in single-season hits, notching 149, and his rookie season in 2025 was highlighted by winning the league's Home Run Derby during All-Star Weekend.
DiTomaso now shifts gears to compete in Banana Ball in 2027, being selected by Savannah with the fifth pick of the second round.
"I'm extremely excited to be a part of such an amazing organization like the Bananas and stoked to start making a positive impact on fans across the world," DiTomaso said. "I couldn't be more excited to be teammates with Connor again, my roommate at GW! It's the coolest experience ever to wear the Buff & Blue and now in the yellow together."
The pair of GW teammates now take their talents world-wide, traveling to three countries and 22 cities as part of the Banana Ball World Tour announced earlier this month. The season kicks off on February 5th in Monterrey, Mexico, and runs until September 25th, with the Banana Bowl being held at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tenn.
