Organizational Support

The Athletics Financial Management Office supports the coaching and administrative staff in the areas of purchasing, payments, deposits, budget control, financial reporting and athletic equipment inventory management. Under the guidance of the Assistant Athletics Director for Business Administration, the Financial Management office promotes transparency, data integrity and accountability within the financial operations of the athletic department.
The Finance staff collaborates with coaches and administrators in budgeting and planning to achieve the short-term and long-term goals of the athletics department. The team of Financial Analysts generate financial reports from the University accounting systems, analyzing them to compare operational activity to approved budgets, as well as confirm the accurate charging of operating expenditures and revenues in accordance with University policies and procedures.
The Finance team also engages with a variety of stakeholders including independent auditors and the Office of Financial Reporting and Analysis to satisfy the NCAA annual audit requirements, as well as provide data necessary to complete annual reporting to the Atlantic 10 Conference, the Department of Education, the Internal Revenue Service and to local government.
The Finance team is also responsible for the annual submission of a report that shows compliance with the Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA).
Annual EADA Report
Any coeducational institution of higher education that participates in Title IV, the federal student aid program, and has an intercollegiate athletics program, must comply with the EADA by preparing an annual report, officially called The Report on Athletic Program Participation Rates and Financial Support Data; more commonly known as the EADA Report. The EADA Report must be published by October 15 each year and must be made available upon request to students, prospective students, and the public. A prospective student is defined as an individual who has contacted an eligible institution requesting information concerning admission to that institution.
Data is published on the Office of Postsecondary Education on the Equity in Athletics Data Analysis Cutting Tool website located at http://ope.ed.gov/athletics.
The Associate Athletic Director for Compliance oversees all aspects of compliance and eligibility and works closely with the Faculty Athletics Representative, Athletic Director and General Counsel as needed. Compliance and eligibility policies and procedures seek to affirm institutional control, a key component of NCAA membership, and institutional certification. The compliance program for department staff, coaches, student-athletes, representatives of GW Athletics' interests, and offices on campus that have compliance responsibilities exists to facilitate and ensure compliance with institutional, conference, and NCAA regulations. Guidelines established by these governing bodies provide a framework for fair competition, good sportsmanship and responsible behavior, which assists The George Washington University in ensuring there is an appropriate balance between educational and athletic pursuits. The George Washington University has a strong commitment to the rules of compliance.
The Athletics Compliance Office is the liaison with Admissions, GW Housing, GWorld Office, Office of Student Financial Assistance and the certifying officers in each of the five undergraduate schools and all graduate schools at The George Washington University.
