Men’s Basketball Sprints by La Salle Late, 77-55

WASHINGTON - In its first test of the 2026 calendar year, GW men's basketball hosted La Salle looking to improve to 2-0 in the Atlantic 10 for the first time since 2014-15. Portending what may be to come in a conference that annually sees cannibalism, it's seldom easy.
La Salle held a 46-45 lead with 12:36 to play before GW's superior depth and talent won out. It also helps to have Rafael Castro on your side.
In staking his claim for A-10 and National Player of the Week honors, after enjoying a career-high 27 points in GW's road rout at Richmond, the All-League performer was a menace to be reckoned with, playing above the rim on both ends in a scintillating performance. With game-highs of 26 points, 14 rebounds, four blocks and three steals, Castro played head and shoulders above the Explorers, literally.
As a team, George Washington also caught fire in the second half, overcoming a suboptimal first half of shooting at a .389 clip to tune the twine with a .615 effort in the final 20 minutes, and closing the contest on a 32-9 run. The GW defense was also critical in the result, holding La Salle to .333 shooting after intermission.
Trey Autry backed up Castro's prolific day with 17 points of his own, including shooting 3-of-7 from deep, while Christian Jones netted 10 (2-of-3 threes) with a team-high four assists.
The Revolutionaries now have a quick turnaround for another nationally-televised contest at Dayton Tuesday night. Tip time against the Flyers is 8 p.m., live on CBS Sports Network.
