PITTSBURGH -Â GW men's basketball gave top-seeded Saint Louis all it could handle for the second time in as many matchups, but the Billikens erased a 21-point deficit to advance to the A-10 semifinals with an 88-81 win.Â
Similar to the regular season encounter, GW came out blazing and built a 36-15 lead via a 28-4 run that elapsed 10 minutes in the first half. But just like January in the Midwest, Saint Louis got back to 14 at the break and then cut the lead to two, 56-54, seven minutes into the second half.
SLU's consistent pushes built them a nine-point lead with four minutes remaining, but GW rallied back with a 10-0 run, moving ahead on a Rafael Castro three-point play with 1:47 left. A foul on the ensuing possession put Saint Louis at the line for a pair of free throws and GW missed a look at the rim, setting up the foul game the rest of the way.
Trey Autry led GW offensively with 19 points, knocking down a quartet of 3-pointers. Tyrone Marshall double-doubled with 14 points and 13 rebounds and Jean Aranguren tallied 11 points with six assists as the two veteran players both reached the 1,000-point mark for their careers.
GW, boasting a top-four NET and KenPom ranking among A-10 schools, will now await its postseason fate in the NIT with selections announced on Sunday night.
