Men's Basketball Announces Non-Conference Schedule

WASHINGTON - GW men's basketball has revealed its expanded 14-game non-conference schedule for the 2026-27 season, boasting nine home games, four neutral-site affairs and a road trip to an ACC foe.
"As we strive for a third-straight postseason appearance, we looked to develop a non-conference schedule that both prepares us for the Atlantic 10, as well as provides great opportunities," said Head Coach Chris Caputo. "Finding a balance between competing in front of our home crowd, high-level neutral site games on national television, as well as a home-and-home with an ACC program should serve us well both in the metrics and in preparation for conference play."
Metrically, the slate is projected to have the toughest strength of schedule in any of Coach Caputo's five years in Foggy Bottom and features five teams inside the top-125 of Bart Torvik's preseason rankings. Caputo enters the campaign with 71 wins in his first four years, the most for a GW bench boss since Mike Jarvis' 74 from 1990-94.
The home schedule is highlighted by three regular-season conference champions from a year ago in Navy (Patriot), UMBC (America East) and Long Island (NEC), the latter two of which advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
Fans first chance to see the Buff & Blue in action will once again come in the form of the Monumental Matchup exhibition with Georgetown on Friday, October 16 at 6 p.m. Tickets for the rematch with the Hoyas on Alumni and Families Weekend are on sale now.
The regular season tips off with five-straight home games against Navy (Nov. 2), Hampton (Nov. 7), Elon (Nov. 10), Harvard (Nov. 13) and Division II Ferrum (Nov. 16).Â
Following a two-game swing at the Greenbrier Tip-Off vs. challenging mid-majors UAB (Nov. 20) and Western Kentucky (Nov. 22), GW will return to the Smith Center for four-straight home games beginning with a Black Friday matchup with UMBC (Nov. 27).
The homestand stretches into December with contests vs. Southeastern Louisiana (Dec. 1), Long Island (Dec. 5) and American (Dec. 9) before the first leg of a home-and-home series with ACC foe Boston College takes place in Chestnut Hill, Mass., on Dec. 12.
GW rounds out the non-conference schedule with two games at the Texas Legends College Classic opposite San Francisco (Dec. 19) and reigning Mountain West regular season champion Utah State (Dec. 21).
