Men's Basketball's Season Ends in NIT Second Round

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -Â Battling altitude and a lack of available bodies, George Washington men's basketball hung around for the first half with New Mexico, but the Lobos, a top-50 team nationally, caught fire in the second half and pulled away in an 86-61 victory.
Down to just seven available scholarship players, GW fought its way back from an early double-digit deficit, closing the first half on a 9-2 run to head into the locker room down just four, 36-32.
The Lobos, though, took immediate control after halftime via a 10-0 run that featured back-to-back-to-back 3-pointers from Jake Hall. GW got within 11 again on a couple occasions, the last of which came via a Trey Autry 3-pointer with 6:43 remaining.
That was as close as it would get as UNM scored the next 16 points to inflate the final score.
Christian Jones led the Revolutionaries with 16 points while Tre Dinkins in his final collegiate game scored 14 points on four 3-pointers.
The game also marked the end of the careers for Rafael Castro and Tyrone Marshall Jr. Castro scored six points with 14 rebounds while Marshall was held to two points in 16 minutes battling foul trouble throughout.
GW finishes the season at 19-16 and with a top-100 ranking in the NET for the first time since its introduction in 2018. The Buff & Blue won their first postseason game in nine years and advanced the postseason in consecutive years for the first time since 2014-17.
