HENRICO, Va. – The George Washington women's basketball team dropped its Second Round matchup with seventh-ranked Dayton on Thursday, ending its trip to the Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Championship.
After GW hung tough in the first quarter and led by a point, Dayton's offense came alive in the second, building a nine-point lead midway through the quarter. After maintaining its advantage late into the first half, the Flyers look poised to carry a double-digit lead into the halftime break. Gabby Reynolds and Mia James had other plans as Reynolds converted a three-point play, grabbed a quick steal on the next possession, and found James for a triple, cutting Dayton's lead to just four at halftime.
GW came out of the halftime break with some energy, chipping away at the deficit and capturing a one-point lead midway through the quarter. It would be the last lead of the night for GW as Dayton used an 11-0 run to open up its largest lead of the night and bury GW for good.
Sara Lewis led the way with 19 points and 10 rebounds, her third double-double of the season. Reynolds battled foul trouble for much of the second half, finishing with 11 points and five boards. James added 11 points, while Payton Dulin chipped in six.
