3/18/2026 12:06:00 PM | Women's Basketball
For the first time since 2017, postseason basketball returns to the Smith Center as the George Washington women's basketball team hosts Bradley in the opening round of the 2026 Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT). Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. in Foggy Bottom, with live coverage available on ESPN+.
BACK IN THE POSTSEASON
The Revolutionaries return to the postseason for the first time since 2018 and make their first trip to the WNIT since 2017. In total, the Buff & Blue have competed in the postseason 24 times, including 18 trips to the NCAA Tournament and six appearances in the WNIT. In GW's five previous stops in the WNIT, the program's furthest run was to the third round in 2014, while also making one trip to the second round in 2002. GW's rich history of postseason basketball includes four trips to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen, one berth in the Elite Eight (1997) and 18 total NCAA Tournament wins.
GROWTH UNDER COACH G
GW has shown undeniable growth under Coach G this season. The Revolutionaries finished the regular season with 15 wins, including seven in A-10 action, both surpassing the program's win totals from the previous two seasons. GW has also seen an uptick in numerous statistical categories compared to the 2024-25 campaign, including points per game, team field goal percentage, team three-point percentage, blocks per game, steals per game, assists per game and scoring margin.
Coach G has had a hand in some of the most successful seasons for GW women's basketball in recent memory. She was part of the staff that led GW to its most recent A-10 title in 2018, sending the program back to the NCAA Tournament for the 18th time. After departing Foggy Bottom and taking over as the head coach at Colgate, Adeduntan led the Raiders to two WNIT appearances in four seasons. Now back with GW once again, she becomes just the third coach in program history to make a postseason appearance in her first season at the helm.
POSTSEASON SUCCESS FOR THE A-10
Announced on Sunday, the 48-team field for the 2026 WNIT includes four teams from the Atlantic 10. Joining the Revolutionaries are La Salle, St. Bonaventure and Loyola Chicago, who all extended their respective seasons with berths into the tournament. Those four join Rhode Island (NCAA Tournament), Richmond (NCAA Tournament) and George Mason (WBIT), giving the A-10 seven teams playing in the postseason this year.
SCOUTING THE BRAVES
Under the guidance of fourth-year Head Coach Kate Popovec-Goss, the Braves finished the regular season with a 20-11 record, earning the fifth seed in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. Bradley's tournament run was cut short on day two with a narrow 74-73 loss to Northern Iowa in the quarterfinals. The Braves now look for redemption as the program makes its first-ever appearance in the WNIT.
Prior to taking over the program in 2022, Popovec-Gross spent six seasons at Northwestern coaching under GW Athletics Hall of Famer Joe McKeown. She helped guide the Wildcats to five postseason appearances during her tenure and a Big Ten title in 2020. Popovec-Goss holds a 40-79 overall record with the Braves, slowly rebuilding the program into a winner over the past two seasons. This year's 20-win total is the most since 2019-20 and just the fourth 20-win season in program history.
Offensively, Bradley is paced by Kaylen Nelson, who averages 18.1 ppg. The MVC All-Conference First Teamer also grabbed 4.9 rebounds per game and was second on the team with 41 steals. Maya Foz was named the MVC Freshman of the Year following a breakout rookie season. Foz averaged 14.3 ppg on 43.3% shooting from the floor, while also leading the team in steals and sitting second in assists. Bradley's full 2025-26 season stats can be found here.
