Women's Basketball Gets Crucial Win vs. Bonnies, 61-47
2/25/2026 8:56:00 PM | Women's Basketball
WASHINGTON - After a pregame Senior Night ceremony in celebration of Filipa Calisto, Emma Theodorsson, Caia Loving and Natalia Sierra-Vargas, GW women's basketball turned its attention to a visiting St. Bonaventure team that entered play with an identical league record as the Revolutionaries, but with an edge in the race for seeding after a buzzer-beating win in New York earlier this season. Forty minutes later, after superior play by George Washington, the score was settled as the team in Buff & Blue left with the seeding edge, moving a game ahead of the Bonnies into 9th in the conference with a game to play - and seeds 1-10 earning at least a first round bye in next week's A-10 Championship tournament.
In the 14-point GW win, a familiar script played out with the tandem of Gabby Reynolds and Sara Lewis leading the way. Reynolds tied for game-high scoring honors with 12 points, while Lewis netted 11 with a game-high tying nine rebounds in a perfect 5-of-5 night from the free throw line, all while playing her trademark lockdown defense. Bonnies' leading gunner Laycee Drake, who entered play averaging 15.3 points per game on .442 shooting from the field. Drake finished with seven in a 3-of-12 night, with her team similarly stifled to a .304 shooting percentage.
As the clock ticked down the final seconds, Theodorsson, Loving and Sierra-Vargas continued to hustle in the final seconds, with Sierra-Vargas capping her Smith Center career with the intensity and grit that made the former walk-on a team favorite. Theodorsson tied Lewis with a game-high nine rebounds, while Calisto's contributions came earlier in the night with a pair of treys. Captain Loving provided the leadership all along.
GW's regular season concludes Saturday at Rhode Island in a 2:30 p.m. contest in Kingston, live on ESPN+.
