Wenz Walks It Off for Baseball in the 10th

Late heroics from GW's bats propelled the George Washington baseball team to a 5-4 win in the 10th inning on Tuesday over James Madison. GW improves to 18-29 on the year with six games to go in the regular season.
Â
After a slow start, which saw the Dukes' first four batters reach base safely, GW faced a 3-0 deficit in the opening inning. From there, GW's pitching staff put on a stellar show the rest of the way, limiting James Madison to just one run over the next nine innings.
Â
GW's offense broke through in the second on an RBI single from Josh Wenz, the last run scored between the two teams until the seventh, when JMU added to its advantage with a solo home run, making it 4-1 for the visitors.
Â
GW made its comeback bid in the eighth, plating three in the inning to knot the score back up. Nick Mullen got the inning started with a two-RBI double to left field, while Wenz drew the Revolutionaries even with an RBI single to left field.
Â
Neither team could muster anything in the ninth, sending the game to extra innings. After JMU went quiet in the top of the inning, GW saw its first two baserunners of the inning reach safely. Following two quick outs, Wenz stepped up to the plate and brought in the game's winning run on a fielding error by the Dukes' third baseman, scoring Cristino Tufano from third.
Â
GW's pitching staff used seven arms on the day, five of which didn't allow a run. Jasper Nadel picked up the win, moving him to 2-0 on the season. Henry Knighton (2.0 innings), Liam Thyen (2.0 innings), Brad Marks (2.0 innings) and Drew Harris (1.0 innings) each had scoreless appearances as well.
Â
GW returns to action this weekend, opening a three-game series at Richmond on Friday. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
