Baseball Falls in Series Finale to Davidson

Joined by local first responders and youth for Hometown Heroes and Kids' Day, the George Washington baseball team dropped its series finale matchup with Davidson on Sunday afternoon, 8-5. The Revolutionaries fall to 17-25 on the season and 9-12 in conference action.
After Davidson jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, GW's bats got them right back in the game in the fourth. Charlie Walsh started the rally with a solo home run to center field, followed by a Brodie Freker RBI double down the right field line to score Robbie Lavey. Josh Wenz was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for the third run of the inning, while Connor Jones tied the ballgame up at four apiece with a sacrifice fly to left field.
In the sixth, GW captured its first lead of the day on a throwing error by Davidson's shortstop. Jack Kent legged out the play at first, reaching after the throw was in the dirt at the bag. Wenz scored from third base, putting GW up 5-4.
As the Wildcats have done all weekend, they used clutch hitting in the eighth and ninth to fuel victories. Sunday was no different as Davidson posted three runs in the eighth to retake the lead and seal the win.
Gavin Miller was charged with the loss for GW, his first of the season, after tossing 1.2 innings in relief and allowing three earned runs. Declan Wywoda started on the mound for the Buff & Blue, tossing four innings and striking out three. Jasper Nadel (2.0 innings), Ryan Barks (0.1 innings) and Matt Bruno (1.0 innings) all had scoreless showings out of GW's bullpen in the game.
GW now hits the road for a Tuesday matinee at Towson, with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on FloCollege.
