Colonials overpower crosstown foe for first win
WASHINGTON - GW men's tennis earned its first win of the campaign in convincing fashion on Friday afternoon, brooming Howard in a 7-0 win at the Southeast Tennis & Learning Center.
The doubles duo of Ryan Navarro and Ethan Jacobs set the tone for the match with a 6-0 win in #2 doubles to start the day and were quickly followed by victories at #1 from Ben Barnett and Zicheng Zeng and at #3 from Lawrence Sciglitano and Jakub Behun.
GW didn't drop a set in singles play with Barnett at #4 and Hanyu Liu at #6 dropping only one game in their straight-set triumphs. Jacobs maintained his perfect record in his first two matches with the Buff & Blue, with 6-0, 6-2 wins at #3 singles.
The Colonials return to action next Saturday, Feb. 1, with the A-10 opener against Duquesne. First serve from JTCC in College Park, Md., is scheduled for 5:45 p.m.
