Men's Tennis Comes Back to Beat Longwood, 4-3

WASHINGTON - GW men's tennis got back in the win column on Sunday afternoon with a thrilling come-from-behind win over Longwood at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center.

The Colonials earned the doubles point with victories at #2 (Lawrence Sciglitano / Hanyu Liu) and #3 (Ryan Navarro / Dennis Afanasev) to take an early 1-0 advantage. However, the Lancers took three of the first four singles matches to move in front, 3-2.

GW's lone point in the stretch came from Navarro's 6-4, 6-3 win at #2. Trailing by one, the Colonials evened things up with Afanasev's straight-set, 6-4, 6-1 triumph at #5.

The attention then turned to first-year Ben Barnett's three-set thriller at #3. Barnett took the first set, 6-3, and dropped the second, 6-2, but rebounded emphatically with a 6-2 third-set win to clinch his match and the overall match for the Colonials.
