Colonials looking for second straight win in lone matchup this weekend
LIVE STATS
WASHINGTON -Â GW men's tennis is on the road for its only match of the weekend, traveling to Lynchburg, Va., to battle Liberty on Friday at 4 p.m. The match will be held at the Crosswhite Athletic Club.
TWO FOR TWO:Â First-year Ryan Navarro was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week on Wednesday, becoming the second Colonial in as many weeks to garner the accolade. Classmate Zicheng Zeng was the honoree in the season's opening week.
PULLING THEIR WEIGHT:Â Navarro has been a part of a strong tandem at No. 3 doubles with junior Dennis Afanasev, a pairing that is a perfect 3-0 thus far in the spring. Afanasev is the lone Colonial not to drop a match this year, going 1-0 at No. 5 singles and 2-0 at No. 6 singles. With captain Jakub Behun currently on the mend, Afanasev is the lone non-first-year in GW's lineup.
ABOUT THE FLAMES:Â Liberty enters the weekend with a 1-5 mark and has been off since Feb. 2 when it lost to Santa Clara in Seattle, Wash. The Flames are in their first season in the Atlantic Sun, where they were projected to finish third in the league's preseason poll. GW and Liberty have never met in men's tennis.
