Baseball Drops Mid-Week Matchup with #13 Virginia

GW got early offensive production from Robby Wacker and Jude Clough, tallying two runs in the first inning. Wacker doubled down the left field line to score Brett Young, while Jude Clough ripped a double down the right field line that scored Wacker. Young pushed another run across the plate, recording another RBI double to score DiTomaso. Young eventually scored again when Clough registered his second RBI single of the day on an infield hit to third base.
The Buff & Blue registered three more runs in the fourth inning, two of which came from Young and Clough. Young recorded his third hit of the day, a triple to left center field to score DiTomaso again. Later in the inning, Clough put his third RBI single of the game on the board, scoring Young again for GW's sixth run of the game. Bryan Belo also pushed a run across for GW, singling through the right side to score McGwire Tuffy.
In the eighth, Young drew within a home run of the cycle with an RBI single that scored Nick Mullen. Again, in the eighth, GW plated three more via a double to right center from Robbie Lavey. Scoring on the play was Tim Nicholson, Josh Wenz and Tuffy. Cristino Tufano registered GW's final run of the game in the bottom of the eighth, delivering an RBI single to center field to score Lavey.
Young finished with a monster 3-for-3 day with three RBI and three runs scored. Clough went 3-for-4 with three RBI, while DiTomaso recorded a 2-for-4 line with two runs scored. Belo finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Wacker recorded one hit, one run and one RBI. Tuffy scored two runs and notched one base hit, while Tufano notched a 1-for-2 line with an RBI.
GW returns to action on Friday to open a three-game series with Canisius. Friday's contest is slated for 2:30 p.m., while Saturday's game is set for 1:00 p.m. and Sunday's game is set for noon.
