Baseball Tops Bryant for First Win of 2024
2/24/2024 6:45:00 PM | Baseball
Much like yesterday's high-scoring affair, Bryant found early success, plating two runs in the top of the first inning to take the quick lead. GDUB got one back in the bottom half of the inning, capitalizing on a sacrifice fly from Robby Wacker that scored Steve DiTomaso. After Bryant tacked on another run in the second via a solo homer, GW took its first lead of the game with three runs in the bottom of inning two. Headlining the scoring outburst was DiTomaso who delivered a 2-RBI single up the middle to score Sam Gates and Brett Young.
Bryant had an answer for GW's offense, hitting another solo shot to knot the score at four apiece in the fifth. From that point on it would be all GDUB, putting up eight unanswered runs to run away with the game. The Buff & Blue erupted for five runs in the fifth, two in the seventh and one in the eighth to put the finishing touches on an outstanding offensive showing. GW's offense in the fifth was led by a 2-RBI double from Sam Gates that just grazed over Bryant's third baseman and skipped down the line. In the seventh, it was DiTomaso who delivered again, tallying an RBI on a groundout to bring home Young once again.
Graham Jeffries earned his second start on the mound for GW this season, earning the win after tossing five innings. Jeffries allowed three earned runs and struck out six Bulldogs. Shugy Klein pitched one scoreless inning in relief for GW, while Benny Wilson picked up his first save of the year after tossing three scoreless innings with only one hit allowed.
Ellis Schwartz led GW at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 on the day with two RBI and one run scored. DiTomaso went 2-for-5 from the dish with three RBI, while Gates finished 2-for-4 with two RBI, a run scored and a walk. Brett Young also had a strong offensive showing, finishing 1-for-3 with two runs scored, an RBI and a walk as well.
The Revolutionaries wrap-up their home-opening series against Bryant tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. Live coverage from Tucker Field at Barcroft Park will be carried on ESPN+.
