WASHINGTON – The George Washington baseball team is set for its 2024 home opener when Bryant travels to Tucker Field at Barcroft Park for a three-game series starting this Friday and extending into Saturday and Sunday. First pitch on Friday is slated for 2:30 p.m., while Saturday's game is set for 1 p.m. and Sunday will commence at noon. Friday and Sunday's games will be carried live on ESPN+.
HISTORY AGAINST BRYANT
Friday's contest will mark the first meeting all-time between GW and Bryant. The Bulldogs will be the 201st different opponent that the Revolutionaries have faced going back to the 1950 season.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Bryant enters the weekend series 0-1 after having two of the team's three games against UCF cancelled due to inclement weather in central Florida. In the season opener, the Bulldogs dropped a nail-bitter, falling to the Knights 12-11. Bryant's offense looked impressive, racking up 15 total hits and tallying three or more runs in three separate innings, but that wasn't enough to overcome an eight-run sixth inning by the Knights that put them behind for good. Gavin Noriega led the way with a 3-for-5 line and three RBI, while Gavin Greger went 3-for-4 with three RBI as well. Both players tallied two runs scored each.
The following day, the teams began game one of a scheduled doubleheader, but the game was eventually suspended and later canceled through only five innings of action. Through those five innings, Bryant was leading, 8-7, in another high scoring affair.
LAST TIME OUT
GW opened the 2024 season on the road at Old Dominion for a three-game weekend series. The Monarchs got the best of the Revolutionaries, sweeping the series. Steve DiTomaso led the way for the Buff & Blue through the first three games, finishing with a .333 batting average and four total hits. DiTomaso drove in two runs and tallied a run in the season-opening series. Robby Wacker and Ellis Schwartz both finished 3-for-10 from the plate for GW, while Brett Young went 2-for-8 and tallied the team's only double.
On the mound, Brayden Kurtz pitched four total innings, giving up no runs and only allowing three hits. Kurtz struck out a team-high seven batters and only walked one. Michael Foltz went four innings in his opening-day start, allowing one earned run and striking out four batters. Teddy Brennan and Graham Jeffries both recorded three strikeouts in their starts over the weekend.
