DiTomaso Hits For the Cycle in Baseball's 9-6 Setback

George Washington trailed 9-4 heading into the ninth, but after DiTomaso's history-making base knock had the tying run in the on-deck circle, the Billikens were able to escape the jam. DiTomaso's four hits were part of GW's 10-hit day, though nobody else in the visitors dugout had more than one hit. Eddie Micheletti extended his hitting streak to 16 games while also plating a run and Bryan Belo touched home twice while swiping one of two bags for GW on the day. The other steal came via the fleet feet of DiTomaso, who had all three of his team's extra base hits on Saturday.
Saint Louis jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the second, which Micheletti, via a sac fly, and Noah Levin on a single to left trimmed the home team's lead to 3-2 in the top of third. Single SLU runs in the third, fifth and seventh set the stage for a three-run eighth inning for the home team, sending GDUB to the plate with too much to make up in the ninth.
The Billikens used 12 hits (10 singles) and five walks with three GW errors to do their damage.
Now in the all-important rubber game on Sunday, the series is at stake with staff ace Chris Kahler on the mound. Kahler will be looking for his fifth win of the year, that goes along with his tidy 3.21 team-leading ERA, at 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
