Colonials take on second-place Billikens in critical series
WASHINGTON - GW baseball will hit the road for a three-game series this weekend at Saint Louis. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+ with Friday's opener beginning at 7 p.m. ET, followed by 3 p.m. and 1 p.m. first pitches on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
A LOOK AT THE A-10: GW's series split with first-place Davidson last weekend left the Buff & Blue a half-game outside of the A-10 playoff picture at 7-7, tied with George Mason. VCU and Rhode Island, both at 8-7, occupy the last two spots in the seven-team tournament with three weekend series remaining. Saint Louis is tied for second at 10-5, a half-game behind first-place Davidson at 10-4.
PITCHING LEADS TO WINNING: GW's starters have more often than not given the Buff & Blue a chance recently in A-10 play as the Colonials have won five of their last seven against A-10 foes after starting 2-5. GW pitching has allowed four earned runs or fewer in five of the seven contests, all wins. Overall this year, the Buff & Blue are 11-2 when allowing four runs or fewer in a game.
ABOUT THE BILLIKENS: SLU is 25-16 on the season and 10-5 in A-10 play, but has dropped two out of three in its last two weekend series at Dayton and VCU. The Billikens possess the league's top offense, averaging 8.0 runs per game, and the A-10's second-best pitching staff by ERA at 5.29.
Individually, Patrick Clohisy (.366) and Ethan Stizman (.357) rank sixth and seventh in the league in batting average. Clohisy has batted .439 in A-10 play, the best in the loop, just ahead of GW's Eddie Micheletti Jr. (.429).
SLU owns a 20-11 edge in the all-time series following a four-game split between the two teams in the last meeting in 2021. GW is visiting St. Louis for the first time 2018.
