Junior catcher becomes GW's highest selected player ever
With the 124th pick in the 2026 MLB Draft, the San Diego Padres selected Robbie Lavey from The George Washington University.

The junior catcher from nearby Oakton, Virginia, heard his name called in Philadelphia ahead of Major League Baseball's All-Star break and became GW's highest drafted player in program history. Lavey is also the first Atlantic 10 player selected in the 2026 MLB Draft.

Recruited and developed by Head Coach Gregg Ritchie, Lavey became the 11th player drafted from GW in the Ritchie era, and first since Cade Fergus (now with the Philadelphia Phillies AAA affiliate) went in the 13th round in 2022.

Named Team MVP in 2026, Lavey hit a team-leading .337, with a .349 average in conference play. He had a team-high 37 RBI in 51 games started, and his 42 walks ranked 3rd in the Atlantic 10. At the dish, Lavey recorded a .462 on-base percentage, while behind the plate, he threw out 25 would-be base-stealers.Â

The two-time All-Atlantic 10 player at designated hitter also twice recorded a .994 fielding percentage.
