Chris Kahler limited George Mason to two earned runs in seven innings pitched.
Baseball Falls to Mason in Barcroft Finale, 9-5

ARLINGTON, Va. -- The script was a familiar one for GW baseball on Sunday. Stellar starting pitching from Chris Kahler had George Washington in position to take the finale of the final home series of the season, as the Buff and Blue took a 4-3 lead into the eighth inning. Once more, however, the opposition rallied late, this time with six runs in the final two innings, to take the finale and earn the sweep, 9-5.
Kahler threw 119 pitches in his seven-inning outing, yielding just two earned runs while striking out six and only issuing one free pass. Meanwhile, the GDUB bats got to a trio of Patriots' pitchers for four runs in the first five innings. The first came on a sac fly from Noah Levin to score Robby Wacker with one out in the fifth, then on an 0-2 pitch with two outs Bryan Belo singled past by the diving third baseman into left, to plate Michael Kohn and knot the ballgame at 2-2.
The game stayed tied after Kahler shut down Mason in the sixth, and when Wacker's spot came up again, he quickly untied it with a bomb into the trees behind the left-field fence, staking Kahler to a 4-2 lead.
The lead lasted until the eighth, despite George Mason narrowing the gap to one in the seventh, but a four-run eighth and two-run ninth for the visitors gave GW too much work to do. Alexander Wright's single in the bottom of the ninth scoring Michael Kohn was too little, too late, as Kahler's outing was once again unrewarded with a win.
GW rapped nine hits in the contest, with eight different hitters tallying a knock. Wacker and Kohn both scored a pair.
With tiebreak scenarios unclear as the A-10 moves to its final weekend of regular season play, GW likely needs a sweep at Saint Bonaventure to give itself a chance at the seven-team postseason field. The Buff and Blue head to Olean, N.Y., with eight conference wins on the season, while seven conference foes have 11+. First-pitch in the season-ending three-game set with Bonnies comes Thursday at 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
