Belo delivers go-ahead, three-run triple in ninth inning
Trailing by three entering the eighth inning, GW got a run closer via a Steve DiTomaso single. The dam then burst open in the ninth as the Colonials loaded the bases with nobody out thanks to an error, walk and infield single.
Pinch hitter Anthony Frechette delivered an RBI single to right to make it 7-6 before Byran Belo cranked a three-run triple to left-center to give GW its first lead since the fourth inning. Belo would later score on DiTomaso's second RBI single in as many frames.
Michael Foltz closed out the Blue Hens with authority in the home half of the ninth, striking out back-to-back hitters to earn his first save of the year.
GW pounded out a season-best 17 hits on the day, led by DiTomaso's four-hit day. Belo finished 2-for-5 with four driven in overall. Michael Kohn socked a pair of doubles and scored two runs. Eddie Micheletti and Sam Gates also contributed two hits apiece.
Benny Wilson earned the win for GW in relief, limiting Delaware to two unearned runs on one hit over four frames while striking out five. Rich Pfluger started and ceded five runs (four earned) on six hits.
GW is quickly back in action on Wednesday when it returns to the Tuck for a matchup with Towson. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
