Colonials score in seven of eight at-bats to roll to 12th win
After being held off the board in the first inning, the Colonials scored at least one run in the final seven frames, including five straight multi-run innings from the fourth inning on.
A run-scoring error in the second started the onslaught before GW doubled its advantage in the third when A-10 Rookie of the Week Noah Levin drove home A-10 Player of the Week Nate Fassnacht with a two-out RBI single.
A pair of bases-loaded walks in the fourth made it 4-0 before Fassnacht blew the game wide open with a three-run double in the fifth as part of a four-run frame that put the Colonials on top 8-1.
Junior Greg Anderberg singled home the first of three runs in the sixth with redshirt sophomore Colin Brophy plating two more on a single two batters later. Four more runs crossed in the seventh, two via an Anderberg single and another on an RBI double from redshirt freshman Derek Ripp.
The Colonials capped off the outburst with three two-out runs in the eighth with RBIs from Levin and pinch-hitters Trey Torain and Alex O'Rourke.
Six Colonials accrued multi-hit affairs, led by Levin and classmate Logan Doran's three hits each. Fassnacht and Anderberg drove in three runs a piece with Levin and Brophy plating a pair.
Meanwhile, the Buff & Blue pitchers kept the Hornets' bats silenced, yielding just two hits on the day. First-year Rich Pfluger improved to 3-0 by going 5.0 innings in the start, yielding a run on two hits with six strikeouts. The bullpen trio of senior Pat Knight, redshirt senior Kevin Hodgson and junior Billy Grant didn't allow a hit in four innings of relief, ceding only two baserunners.
GW wraps up mid-week play with its lone road game of the month of March, traveling to face Coppin State on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
