Afanasev victorious in doubles and singles
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - GW men's tennis dropped its first match of the campaign on Friday morning, falling 4-3 in a tightly-contested affair with cross-town rival Georgetown.
The Hoyas were able to claim the doubles point with wins in the top two pairs, but GW's duo of junior Dennis Afanasev and first-year Ryan Navarro were victorious in their match, 6-3.
In singles play, reigning A-10 Rookie of the Week Zicheng Zeng claimed a straight-set win, 6-4, 7-6 (8) at #1 while Afanasev also won at #6 in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. First-year Lawrence Sciglitano provided GW's third point of the match with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 triumph at #4.
