
Men's Tennis Preps for Pair of Matchups This Weekend

GW faces Georgetown in College Park on Friday, Hosts Longwood Sunday
WASHINGTON -Â After opening its 2019 spring season with a 6-1 triumph over A-10 foe La Salle last weekend, GW men's tennis returns to action for two matches this coming weekend. The Colonials will take on Georgetown in College Park, Md. on Friday at 9 a.m. before welcoming in Longwood to the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center on Sunday at 2 p.m.
ONE FOR ONE:Â First-year Zicheng Zeng was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week after his performance against La Salle on Sunday, winning both of his matches in the top doubles pairing and at #1 singles. Zeng is the first weekly honoree for the Colonials since April 2017.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS:Â Overall, GW had five first-years in its lineup last week with each going a perfect 2-0 on the day. In addition to Zeng, Ben Barnett, Lawrence Sciglitano, Hanyu Liu and Ryan Navarro all won in doubles and swept their singles matches.
ABOUT THE HOYAS:Â Georgetown is 0-3 in the young campaign with a pair of losses two weeks ago against Big East foes Marquette and DePaul. The Hoyas have been off from competition since. GW has won nine of the last 10 meetings with their cross-town rival.
ABOUT THE LANCERS:Â Longwood won its lone match of the season last weekend, besting Division III powerhouse Mary Washington, 6-1. The Lancers were projected to finish fourth in the Big South and take on Division II Chowan on Friday before venturing to the District.
