The George Washington baseball team concluded its trip to Saint Joseph's this weekend with a 7-5 loss to the Hawks on Sunday. GW drops to 8-14 on the year and 2-4 in Atlantic 10 games.
The game featured early offense from both sides, with 10 of the 12 runs scored before the fifth inning. The Hawks jumped ahead in the first and never looked back, plating five in the opening frame to take a commanding lead.
The Revolutionaries scored one in the second on a Josh Wenz RBI single up the middle, but SJU answered right back with two more runs to make it 7-1.
Jack Kent singled through the right side to plate Michael Bravette in the third, and Cristino Tufano tripled to bring home Wenz in the fourth, pulling GW to a 7-3 deficit.
In the ninth, Conlon Walker drove in Robbie Lavey on a fielder's choice, and Charlie Walsh walked with the bases loaded to get the Buff & Blue within two, but the Revolutionaries couldn't take advantage of the tying run in scoring position to extend the game.
Liam Thyen earned his third start of the season on the mound. Six different GW pitchers saw action on the day, with Matt Bruno (2.2 innings), Gavin Miller (3.0 innings) and Declan Wywoda (1.0 innings) all having scoreless outings.
GW turns its attention to VMI, which travels to Tucker Field on Tuesday for a midweek matchup. First pitch against the Keydets is set for 3:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
