Baseball Drops Midweek Matchup vs. VMI

The teams traded blows in the first, with both clubs plating two runs apiece in the opening frame. Charlie Rogan belted his eighth home run of the season, a two-run shot to center field to tie the game up. Jack Kent scored on the long ball as well.
GW rode the momentum into the second inning, plating two more runs to take a 4-2 lead. Cristino Tufano reached base on a bunt single to the VMI shortstop, and an errant throw to first base allowed Charlie Walsh to score GW's first run of the inning. Later that frame, Jack Kent dropped a sacrifice bunt down to the pitcher, driving in Tufano to give GW a two-run advantage.
The lead didn't last long as the Keydets erupted for five runs in the third and tacked one more on in the fifth to recapture an 8-4 advantage. Brodie Freker tallied an RBI single up the middle to score Robbie Lavey in the seventh, but the Buff & Blue couldn't muster anymore offense in the defeat.
Declan Wywoda drew the start for GW, tossing 2.0 innings and striking out one batter. Six different GW pitchers saw action in the game, with Jasper Nadel (2.2 innings) and Colin Lebel (2.0 innings) each throwing scoreless appearances.
GW now looks ahead to the weekend as La Salle comes to town for a three-game series at Tucker Field. First pitch on Friday is slated for 3:00 p.m.
