Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader vs. La Salle
3/28/2026 8:18:00 PM | Baseball
Game One – GW 9, La Salle 6
GW jumped ahead early, using runs in the first and second innings to build a 2-0 lead. Brodie Freker plated the first on a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Robbie Lavey from third base, while Michael Bravette reached on a fielder's choice to bring home Cristino Tufano.
La Salle proceeded to plate four runs over the next three innings to take a 4-2 advantage, but the Revolutionaries snatched the lead back with three of their own in the bottom of the fifth. The rally got started on a La Salle blunder as the Explorers' pitcher threw the ball past the first baseman on a close play at the bag. The error allowed Freker to round third and come home to score GW's third run of the day. Later in the inning, Bravette tallied his second RBI of the day on a single to right-center, while Lavey put GW back in front with a bases-loaded walk.
The Explorers scored two more times in the sixth to retake a one-run lead, but it didn't last long as Nick Mullen launched a two-RBI triple to center field to take a 7-6 advantage. The Buff & Blue added to insurance runs in the seventh, the first coming on an RBI walk from Connor Jones, and the second via a sacrifice fly to right field from Conlon Walker.
Colin Lebel entered in the eighth innings and shut the door on a potential La Salle comeback, tossing 2.0 shutout innings to earn his fourth save of the season. Gavin Miller picks up the win after throwing 2.0 innings in relief and allowing two earned runs. Max Haug earned the start, going 5.0 innings and striking out seven batters in the no-decision.
Game Two – GW 4, La Salle 3
GW took advantage of early offense once again, snagging a 1-0 lead on a wild pitch that scored Jack Kent from third base.
Both starting pitchers settled in from there, with both sides tossing scoreless second and third frames. La Salle was next on the scoreboard, tying the game at one apiece, also on a wild pitch. Later in the inning, Walker broke the tie with a two-run home run to right field, his third of the season.
Andrew Cutler, GW's starter in the contest, tossed 6.0 innings in total, allowing just the one run and striking out nine batters. After Cutler departed, La Salle managed to tie the score up again on a two-run home run of their own.
As the Revolutionaries did all day, they had an answer for every La Salle score. Luke Maltacea dropped a perfect sacrifice bunt, scoring C. Jones for the eventual game-winning run.
Jasper Nadel earned his first win of the season after throwing 1.0 innings in relief, while Matt Bruno picked up his first save, pitching 2.0 scoreless innings out of GW's bullpen.
Both teams return to Tucker Field tomorrow for the series finale. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m., with live coverage available on ESPN+.
