ARLINGTON, Va. – Prior to Tuesday's game against VMI, the George Washington baseball team honored the life and legacy of Jackie Robinson, who broke the major league color barrier on this date over 70 years ago.

Sam Gates was awarded the Jackie Robinson Award, an honor bestowed upon a GW baseball player who exhibited the qualities and characteristics Robinson possessed throughout his life. Gates became the 23^rd player in program history to receive the honor since its inception in 2002.

The Revolutionaries found the scoreboard first, plating a run in the second off a double-play ball from Cristino Tufano. Scoring from third was Robbie Lavey. VMI quickly tied the game, getting a run of their own off a throwing error from GW in the third.

After GW tallied two runs in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead, VMI tallied 10 runs in the seventh and five in the ninth to take a commanding 16-3 lead. GW notched one in the ninth before the Keydets secured the non-conference win.

Aidan Carey was charged with the loss in a game that saw 11 pitchers see action for GW. Carey moves to 3-4, while VMI's Evan Parmer picked up the win.

GW returns to action this weekend, hosting Richmond for a three-game series starting on Friday at 3:00 p.m. Saturday will be GW's annual Hometown Heroes Day at The Tuck, while Sunday will be the first of two Bark in the Park games this season. All three games this weekend will be carried on ESPN+.
