Baseball Adds LaCien Through Transfer Portal

Head Coach Gregg Ritchie and the George Washington baseball team have announced the addition of Richie LaCien through the transfer portal. LaCien, a right-handed pitcher, arrives at Tucker Field as a graduate student after spending the 2026 season with Illinois.

LaCien appeared in seven games a year ago, tossing a combined 9.1 innings. He finished with a 1-0 record, recording an ERA of 5.79, while also tallying seven strikeouts. His lone start of the year came on April 7th against Indiana State, tossing two innings in a victory over the Sycamores. In each of LaCien's final three outings of 2026, he recorded multiple strikeouts, including a scoreless outing in relief against Oregon, when he tossed 1.1 innings.

LaCien's career began at D-III Lawrence University, where he played four seasons for the Vikings. His career included three Midwest Conference regular-season titles and one tournament championship in 2022. Although he missed the entire 2023 season due to injury, LaCein appeared in 25 games, including 12 starts, 10 of which came in 2025. He logged 68.1 innings, tallied 60 strikeouts, held opposing hitters to a .276 average and recorded two wins in D-III ball.Â

A three-sport athlete in high school, LaCein was active within extracurriculars, serving as a member of the National Honor Society, Math Honor Society, Science Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and earned the Seal of Biliteracy.
