DAYTON, Ohio – The George Washington baseball team dropped its series-opening game at Dayton on Friday afternoon, 6-1. The loss moves GW to 18-15 overall and 6-7 in A-10 play.
The home team got the scoring started right away as Dayton posted one run in the first off a double play ball to the second baseman. GW's starter, Michael Foltz, managed to get out of a bases-loaded and no-outs jam with just one run given up.
The Revolutionaries' offense was slow out of the gates, tallying just two hits through the first three innings. GW knotted the score in the fourth when Charlie Rogan ripped a double down the left-field line, scoring Ellis Schwartz from second base.
Unbeknownst to the GW Revs, they would tally just one more hit the rest of the way as Dayton's pitching staff cruised to the win. The Flyers' offense backed up their arms with one run in the fourth, two in the fifth, one in the sixth and one in the eighth to win, 6-1.
Foltz was credited with the loss, moving him to 2-6 on the season, after tossing 5.0 innings and allowing four earned runs. Max Haug tossed 3.0 innings in relief, allowing two earned runs.
The Buff & Blue look to even the series tomorrow, battling the Flyers at noon. Live stats and a live radio broadcast will be available on GWsports.com.
