Baseball Visits UMES, Looks to Snap Three-Game Skid

WASHINGTON – The George Washington baseball team looks to get back to its winning ways this Wednesday, traveling to Maryland Eastern Shore for a 3:00 p.m. matchup.
LAST TIME OUT
The Revolutionaries dropped three contests over the weekend to Richmond in A-10 action. GW now holds a 20-15 overall mark on the season and a 4-5 record in the A-10, which ranks sixth in the conference. Against the Spiders, Sam Gates led the way with five hits over the weekend, finishing 5-for-13 from the plate and tallying two RBI. Teddy Brennan paced GW on the mound, tossing seven scoreless innings on Saturday in a no-decision. Brennan registered six strikeouts and only allowed five hits in his stellar outing. Despite not earning the win, Brennan continues to shine this season with a team-low 2.82 ERA in 44.2 total innings pitched. He leads the team in strikeouts with 52 and holds opposing batters to a .233 average.
GW EXTENDS NOTABLE STREAKS
Following four games last week, multiple GW players extended personal streaks of note. Gates now has a 12-game hitting streak, the longest of anyone this season. Robbie Lavey is also swinging a hot bat, extending his streak to seven games. Including Gates' hitting streak, GW has three players who have reached base successfully in at least 10-straight games. McGwire Tuffy has tallied at least one base in 11 straight, while Robby Wacker has reached in his past 10 games played. Ellis Schwartz holds the longest streak for GW this season, reaching base in 16-straight contests. Gates is also tied for the team lead in multi-hit games with 16, equal with Steve DiTomaso. Gates leads the squad with five three-hit games and three four-hit contests.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS
UMES enters the week still looking for its first win of the season, sitting at 0-29 overall. The Hawks dropped three contests over the weekend at Central Connecticut State, getting outscored, 30-13, across the series. GW battled UMES earlier this season at Tucker Field, defeating the Hawks 9-5 on March 5. Since then, GW is 13-11, while UMES is 0-19. Through 29 games this season, UMES has only played five home games thus far at the Henry S. Parker Athletic Complex in Salisbury, Md.
On the field, the Hawks are led by Bronson Taylor, who's hitting .386 from the plate. Taylor has 22 total hits including seven doubles and two home runs. He leads the team with a .614 slugging percentage and has 16 RBI as well. No other Hawk is above a .300 batting average, with Derrick Mayes II sitting second on the team at .280. He has 23 total hits and nine RBI for UMES. On the mound, Brandon Poole has a 7.18 ERA on 26.1 innings pitched. Poole has made nine appearances this season with three starts. He holds a record of 0-3.
