ARLINGTON, Va. – The George Washington baseball team dropped its mid-week, non-conference matchup with Delaware on Tuesday afternoon, 18-3.

GW got the scoring started with a single run in the third inning via an RBI double from Sam Gates who finished the day with a solid 2-for-4 line from the plate. Despite the early advantage, GW's lead wouldn't last long as Delaware erupted for seven runs in the fourth inning. Three of the runs were charged to Tyler Blankenship, who earned the start and tossed three-plus innings, while the remaining four were logged to Cade Davis who entered with the bases loaded and no outs in the inning. Blankenship took the loss on the day, his first of the season, moving him to a record of 1-1 on the hill.

The Blue Hens added to their lead in the fifth with five more runs to take a commanding 12-1 advantage. GW got one back in the bottom half of the inning, scoring off an RBI groundout to short off the bat of Steve DiTomaso scoring Nick Mullen. Neither team scored again until the eighth inning when Delaware added another run via a bases loaded hit by pitch.

In the ninth inning, Delaware tacked on five more runs, four of which came on a grand slam from Aidan Kane. GW didn't roll over in the ninth, going away with a run of their own off an RBI single from Josh Wenz to bring the score to its eventual final mark of 18-3. GW used six pitchers in the contest including Gavin Miller who made his second appearance of the season. Miller tossed three solid innings and allowed one earned run on the day. Offensively, Gates led the way with his 2-for-4 line from the plate and one RBI, while Ellis Schwartz, Cristino Tufano, Tim Nicholson, Robby Wacker and Wenz each added a hit apiece.
