WASHINGTON – Following a dominant three-game sweep at Presbyterian, the George Washington baseball team preps for two mid-week contests. The Revolutionaries host Delaware at Tucker Field on Tuesday, then travel north to Towson for a Wednesday afternoon showdown. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., while Wednesday's game is set for 3:00 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
GW completed a three-game sweep of Presbyterian on Sunday afternoon, cruising to an 11-1 victory in Clinton, S.C. The Revolutionaries outscored the Blue Hose 20-4 across the three games, limiting Presbyterian to just eight total hits in the series. GW captured its second extra-innings win of the year on Saturday, scrapping out a 3-0 victory in the 11th inning. Entering the 11th scoreless, Sam Gates put GW's first run on the board with a solo homer. GW added to its advantage later in the inning when Steve DiTomaso scored on a throwing error by Presbyterian's pitcher. The Buff & Blue weren't done there, adding one more run via an RBI single from Ellis Schwartz. GW is 2-0 in contests that have gone to extras this season, coming up clutch with the game on the line.
ROTATION OF ACES
The most impressive part of GW's sweep at Presbyterian was the performances put on by the Revolutionaries' starting rotation. Michael Foltz got things started on Friday, tossing seven innings and striking out seven batters. Foltz allowed just two hits and earned his second win of the season. On Saturday, Teddy Brennan dazzled with another masterpiece on the mound. The junior threw seven innings and only allowed one hit to help GW shut out Presbyterian. Brennan sat down 19 of the 23 batters he faced in the contest, including the first 11 of the game. Of the four that reached successfully, one was via hit, one off hit by pitch, one drew a walk and one reached safely on a fielding error. Although Brennan didn't earn the win, he was a major part in GW's second shutout of the season. In Sunday's series finale, Graham Jeffries didn't disappoint, tossing six hitless innings to propel GW to the win. Jeffries stuck out seven batters and only allowed four baserunners in his six innings of work. In total, GW's starters allowed three hits and two earned runs in 20 innings pitched.
