Baseball Hits the Road for Three-Game Series at Presbyterian

WASHINGTON – The George Washington baseball team travels south to Clinton, SC, for a three-game series with Presbyterian starting on Friday. The series opener is slated for a 6:00 p.m. first pitch, while Saturday's game is set for 4:00 p.m. The series finale has a scheduled start time of 2:00 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
GW enters the weekend an even 8-8 overall after falling to Georgetown 8-6 on Tuesday afternoon. The Revolutionaries gave up all eight Hoyas' runs in the sixth inning and were unable to complete the comeback late in the contest. Steve DiTomaso and Charlie Rogan sparked the Buff & Blue offense, with both hitting their first home runs of the season in the contest. DiTomaso's came in the first inning, a two-run shot to left-center field, while Rogan's was a three-run blast in the seventh inning. GW also got a run in the ninth inning off an RBI single from Nick Mullen but were unable to capitalize with runners on the corners and no outs later in the final inning.
The contest against Georgetown was a bullpen day for GW with six different pitchers seeing action in the game. Brandon Siegenthaler earned the start, throwing two scoreless innings to open the game. Shugy Klein was next up and tossed a scoreless third inning before being relieved for Jarrett Korson who blanked the Hoyas in the fourth and fifth. In the sixth, Cade Davis and Max Haug combined for eight earned runs in the frame, with Davis eventually taking the loss for the Revolutionaries. Tyler Blankenship pitched the remaining 3.2 innings for GW, allowing just three hits and no earned runs.
LAVEY EARNS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK HONORS
The Atlantic 10 announced on Tuesday afternoon that first-year Robbie Lavey was named the conference's Co-Rookie of the Week as he continues to build on a solid start to his collegiate career. Lavey shared the honor with Saint Louis infielder Graham Mastros.
Lavey, who appeared in four contests for GW a week ago, led the team in batting average at .444. He piled up four hits in nine at-bats including his first collegiate home run in Tuesday's 9-5 win over Maryland Eastern Shore. Lavey also batted in five RBI, including three against 13th-ranked Virginia on Wednesday. He drew two walks, bringing his on-base percentage to a stellar .545 which was tops for the GW Revs last week as well. Lavey scored three runs in the four games he appeared in, while also recording two doubles. He finished the week with a 1.000 slugging percentage and stole one base.
SCOUTING THE BLUE HOSE
Presbyterian enters the weekend 9-8 overall after dropping a mid-week contest with The Citadel on Tuesday. The Blue Hose, who were picked to finish sixth in the Big South Preseason Poll, opened the season with four straight wins over Saint Peter's, but have stumbled as of late, losing three of their last five. Presbyterian is led by Elton Pollock, who's in his 20th season at the helm of the program. Pollock helped guide the ship during the transition into Presbyterian becoming an NCAA Division I institution in 2009 and has led the Blue Hose to two 30-win seasons.
This season, Presbyterian is led by Joel Dragoo who's batting a scorching .491 from the plate with 27 total hits. Dragoo has six home runs this season and has already tallied 30 RBI. He boasts a slugging percentage of .964 and has also tallied six doubles. He has an on-base percentage of .590 and has drawn 16 walks. Brody Fahr has also shined early on for the Blue Hose, batting .418 on the year and recording 23 total hits. He has 16 RBI, five doubles, 21 runs scored and one homer in 16 games played. As a team, the Blue Hose are hitting .274 and have six players batting .250 or above.
On the mound, Presbyterian is led by Tristan McGregor who's 3-0 on the season in four total appearances. McGregor holds an ERA of 1.38 in 13 total innings, while holding opposing batters to a team-low .159 average. Sean Hollister also holds an identical 1.38 ERA in 13 innings. He has 14 strikeouts on the season in seven total appearances. Robbie Boykin hasn't allowed a run yet in six appearances this year. He's pitched six total innings and has tallied one win. The Blue Hose have a staff ERA of 3.61 and have eight pitchers that are sub-3.00 on the season.
