Baseball Hosts George Mason in Pivotal Weekend Series

ARLINGTON, Va. - Two weekends remain in the Atlantic 10 regular season and GW baseball has put itself in a position to earn a berth in the A-10 Championship at The Diamond in Richmond from May 23-27. The road to Richmond commences this weekend at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park in Arlington when George Mason visits for a three-game set.
Tentative starters for the weekend are Logan Koester, Teddy Brennan and Chris Kahler for GW, and Ben Shields, Chad Gartland and Konner Eaton on the hill for the Patriots. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+ with first pitches coming at 3 p.m. Friday, 1 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday on Senior Day.
MASHING MICHELETTI: Eddie Micheletti Jr. extended his hitting streak to 18 games yesterday vs. Georgetown. His his red-hot stick is within 10 games of Dom D'Alessandro's program-record 28-game streak in 2019. The junior right fielder continues to pace all A-10 hitters with 77 hits on the year after two more on Wednesday. His damage has come in 49 games for the Buff and Blue in 2023 (all starts), for an average of 1.57 hits per contest.
A LOOK AT THE PATRIOTS: James Quinn-Irons is the bat to watch for George Mason, with his team-high tying 52 hits and 31 RBIs (second on the team), despite missing 11 games. Quinn-Irons is the only A-10 hitter with a higher batting average (.397) than Micheletti (.391). Shields and Gartland have both won half of their starts for the Patriots, with Shields' team-high six wins coming in 12 starts, while Gartland was the victor in five of his 10 starting assignments. Shields has struck out 88 batters in 62.0 innings pitched to pace the A-10, while Gartland's 65 Ks rank fifth, just behind Kahler's 70.
THE ROAD TO RICHMOND: GDUB controls its own destiny in the postseason chase, with the top seven teams advancing to the playoffs. George Mason (9-8 in the A-10) sits just a game better than GW in the seventh seeded spot. GW concludes regular season play at St. Bonaventure, May 18-20, against the Bonnies who enter play this weekend at 5-13 in conference play.
