Logan Koester earned his team-leading third win on Friday.
Baseball Takes Series Opener vs. Richmond, 3-2

Arlington, Va. - For the second-consecutive weekend, the George Washington baseball team took the Friday opener against A-10 opposition, and will now look to win the series Saturday. This time around it was behind the pitching and defense that GW notched a 3-2 win against Atlantic 10 foe Richmond.
GW got sterling efforts on the mound from junior righty Logan Koester and first-year hurler Max Haug, who came on in the ninth to retire the side in order for his first career save. Haug's outing came after an eight-inning performance from Koester, who scattered seven hits across his eight frames, while striking out four and only issuing one free pass. With the win, Koester earned his team-leading third win of the year. No other Buff and Blue pitcher has more than one victory, but both Teddy Brennan (tomorrow's starter) and Chris Kahler, who will toe the rubber on Sunday, have a chance at their second wins of the season this weekend.
While the Buff and Blue were limited to three hits, six walks by Spider pitching and four hit batsmen gave GW plenty of base runners. GW did all of its damage in the second inning, courtesy of a Tim Nicholson RBI single that scored Noah Levin, a sac fly off the bat of Bryan Belo to plate Robby Wacker, and a Sam Gates RBI groundout to chase in Michael Kohn.
From there the pitching and defense did the rest, as Richmond could only scratch out single runs in the fourth and fifth, and then had the potential tying run snuffed out at the plate in the seventh.
GW goes for the series win tomorrow behind Brennan, opposing grad student Brock Weirather throwing from the right side. First pitch from Tucker Field at Barcroft Park comes at 1 p.m.
