Colonials and Spiders open three-game series on Friday
WASHINGTON - GW baseball returns to Tucker Field at Barcroft Park for a three-game Atlantic 10 series vs. Richmond. First pitch for Friday's series opener is set for 3 p.m. with a 1 p.m. start on Saturday and a noon first pitch on Sunday. Friday and Sunday's games will air on ESPN+ while ESPN3 will have the coverage on Saturday.
LAST TIME OUT: GW dropped two of three at Dayton last weekend to open A-10 play. The Buff & Blue hammered four home runs in the series opener to win, 11-8, before falling in the last two games, 8-6 and 9-5. The long balls were ultimately what troubled the Colonials, as UD hit 11 dingers in the three-game set. Eddie Micheletti, Bryan Belo and Noah Levin racked up five hits each to lead the way.
LEVIN ROUNDING INTO FORM: Graduate student Noah Levin, who recently became just the ninth player in GW history with 200 hits and 150 RBI in his career, is riding an eight-game hitting streak entering this weekend's series. During the stretch, Levin is 11-for-27 (.407) with two doubles, a homer, eight runs scored and four RBI. Levin has now registered at least one hitting streak of seven games or more in all five seasons with the Buff & Blue.
A LOOK AT THE SPIDERS: Richmond dropped two out of three in its opening A-10 series at home against Saint Joseph's last weekend, giving up 36 runs in the three games. UR is 12-17 overall and has the reigning A-10 Pitcher of the Week in Kyle Subers, who struck out nine in 4.1 innings of relief in a win over St. Joe's on Sunday.
Richmond enters the series fifth in the league in batting average at .282 and sixth in ERA at 6.96. GW is 56-73 all-time against the Spiders, but took two of three in Richmond last season.
