Forecast postpones Friday game to Saturday doubleheader
WASHINGTON - GW baseball is back at Tucker Field this weekend for a three-game series with first-place Davidson. Due to expected inclement weather on Friday, the series will now start on Saturday with a doubleheader at 12 p.m. Sunday's finale is still scheduled for 12 p.m.
INSIDE THE A-10: The Buff & Blue have put themselves in postseason position over the last two weekends with series victories at Fordham and vs. VCU. At 6-6, GW is in a three-way tie for the final spot in next month's seven-team A-10 Championship along with George Mason and VCU. Four teams - Richmond, Dayton, Rhode Island and Saint Joseph's - sit at 7-5 while Davidson and Saint Louis lead the way at 9-3.
BACK-TO-BACK: Sunday starter Chris Kahler earned his second A-10 Pitcher of the Week honor in a row this week following his second-straight complete game and third of the season. Kahler has had nearly identical stat lines in his last two starts, throwing nine innings with 10 strikeouts, two walks and two runs allowed in each game. He has allowed just nine total hits in the two contests.
Kahler leads the A-10 in WHIP at 1.08, ranks third in ERA (3.38) and has piled up 62 strikeouts, fourth-most in the circuit.
ABOUT THE WILDCATS: Davidson is tied with SLU atop the A-10, having won all four of its conference series thus far, including two out of three at Rhode Island last weekend. The Wildcats are second in the league in scoring at 7.8 runs per game and top the loop with 66 long balls this season. Ryan Wilson is the catalyst, leading the A-10 in average (.387), home runs (15), OBP (.519), slugging (.789) and total bases (112). He is eight RBI shy of leading the A-10 in all three triple crown categories.
On the hill, Davidson has a 6.85 staff ERA with Will Schomberg topping the charts at 3.48, good for fifth in the league. He also ranks 5th in the A-10 with 59 strikeouts.
GW is 8-18 all-time against the Wildcats, but took three out of four the last time the teams played in 2021. This is Davidson's first trip to Barcroft Park since 2019.
