Kahler's Ks Knock Out Rams, 9-2

Bronx, NY - What GW baseball had set out to do the previous two Sundays it finally did on Sunday in the Bronx; win an A-10 series in 2023. In both of the previous two A-10 sets, George Washington went into the rubber game of the set first at Dayton then against Richmond looking to claim the series with a Sunday win. This time around, junior righty Chris Kahler took the Rams by the horns.
In a complete-game effort that saw him set down 10 batters by way of the K, Kahler was in control throughout, scattering just five hits with two walks mixed in to lead his club to the Atlantic 10 win versus Fordham. Not that he needed it, but he also was the beneficiary of oodles of run support. GW banged out 13 hits in the series finale, capping a weekend in which it scored 32 runs and had 42 hits. While Fordham's pitching kept the Buff and Blue in the yard on Sunday, the Bronx was littered with GW baserunners as the visitors also walked five times.
Eddie Micheletti got the day started with an RBI groundout to bring in Sam Gates in the top of the first, and while Fordham scratched a run across in the bottom of the inning to tie it up, GW was undeterred. Next time up in the third, Micheletti brought home two more, this time on a single to center that allowed Gates to score in front of Steve DiTomaso. Micheletti's day was hardly done though, as a two-bagger in the fifth extended the lead to 5-1, with Gates scoring once again. When Robby Wacker plated DiTomaso with a single and Michael Kohn knocked in Micheletti, George Washington's lead stood at 8-1 entering the sixth and Kahler would cruise to his second win of the season from there.
Gates played tablesetter to perfection out of the leadoff spot, going 1-for-2 with three walks, three runs scored and a stolen base. Hitting out of the two-hole, DiTomaso went 3-for-5 with two runs scored. With the first two hitters aboard eight times between them, Micheletti feasted in his 3-hit, 4-RBI, 2-runs scored afternoon.
Now 4-5 in A-10 play and tied for seventh in the league standings and the final Championship berth in next month's seven-team A-10 tournament, GW will look for some home cooking in next weekend's major A-10 clash with rival VCU (5-4). First though, on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park, GW gets a primer ahead of the big weekend series with a midweek visit from the Big 10's Maryland Terrapins. Maryland sits at 21-14 overall and has several ranked wins to its credit this season. First pitch comes at 3 p.m., live on ESPN+.
