Colonials and Terrapins square off at 3 p.m. Tuesday
WASHINGTON - GW baseball will host Big Ten foe Maryland on Tuesday afternoon at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. with live coverage on ESPN+.
JACKIE ROBINSON DAY: Every year since 2002, GW baseball, in conjunction with the GW Jackie & Rachel Robinson Society, bestows the Jackie Robinson Award on a Colonial baseball player. The award is given to the Colonial who best exhibits the qualities that reflect the attributes of the legendary sports hero that famously broke the Major League Baseball color barrier over 75 years ago this month. The 2023 recipient of the award will be unveiled in a ceremony prior to first pitch.
EDDIE, EDDIE: Junior Eddie Micheletti Jr. had a monster series over the weekend at Fordham, going 7-for-14 (.500) in the three games with three doubles, a home run, seven runs scored and eight RBI. Micheletti has hit safely in six-straight games, including five-consecutive mulit-hit affairs.
The Wilmington, Del., native now leads the A-10, and ranks 26th nationally, with 56 hits on the season, surpassing the 100-career hit mark last week. He's also second in the league in doubles (15), fourth in total bases (84) and seventh in batting average (.361).
ABOUT THE TERRAPINS: GW will look to exact revenge against Maryland after the Terps scored six times in the bottom of the eighth to pull out a 9-6 win on March 21. UMD is 21-14 on the year following a series victory at Ohio State over the weekend.
The Terps are first in the Big Ten, and 15th nationally, with 64 long balls on the season, led by Nick Lorusso's 14 and Matthew Shaw's 12. On the mound, Maryland is scheduled to throw Nate Habertheir, who has made nine appearances and five starts this year, going 2-2 with 7.27 ERA.
