Bullpen Backs Brennan, Bats in Bronx Win, 9-4

Graduate transfer Michael Kohn was the hitting star of the day, as one of his three hits sailed into the Bronx afternoon with a go-ahead grand slam in the sixth that turned a 4-2 deficit into a 6-4 lead. While the Buff and Blue went on to tack on an additional run in the inning, as well as single runs in the seventh and ninth, the George Washington pitching didn't need the insurance today.
First-year southpaw Teddy Brennan tossed six innings of four-run baseball to earn the win, with all of the damage coming against him in the bottom of the fifth. When Kohn went yard in the sixth it put Brennan in line for the win, and after Brennan held the Rams off the board in the bottom of the inning, junior righty Anthony Germinerio handled the seventh and first-year utility man Cade Davis tied up Fordham in the eighth and ninth to close it out. Davis' performance comes on the heels of the first start and win of his career on Tuesday when he went 6.1 innings to beat Towson.
The game started in fine fashion for GW with two runs in the top of the first. Eddie Micheletti tallied the first RBI, doubling home Sam Gates, who also ripped a two-bagger to lead off the game. Micheletti then scored on a sac fly off the bat of Noah Levin.
After Fordham took the lead in the fifth with four runs scored, Kohn came to the plate in the sixth looking at Anthony Frechette, Levin and Robby Wacker aboard. The foursome then had an easy jog around the bases after Kohn went deep. A Bryan Belo single gave GW a 7-4 lead later in the inning, and Frechette's sac fly to score Steve DiTomaso in the seventh and Levin's base knock in the ninth to plate Micheletti accounted for the final margin.
Eight batsmen recorded hits for the visitors, including six with multiple-hit days (Gates, Micheletti, Frechette, Levin, Kohn and Belo).
With the win, for the third consecutive Sunday, GW moves into the final game of the set looking to capture its first A-10 series win of the season. First pitch at Fordham comes at 12 noon on ESPN+.
