Micheletti delivers game-winning hit in 10th inning
The Buff & Blue had trailed by as many as three in the game, but took a lead into the ninth inning, only to see it disappear. After getting out of a two-on, none-out jam in the top of the 10th, GW walked off with the win after Sam Gates doubled with one down and scored on a solid Micheletti single to right-center.
Micheletti bookended the scoring for the Colonials, as he started the day with a two-run triple in the bottom of the first inning to score Gates and Steve DiTomaso for an early 2-0 lead.
Niagara responded with a run in the second and three more in the third to take the lead and added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to increase the advantage to 6-3.
GW rallied though with three in the home half of the sixth, all with two outs. Brett Young coaxed a bases loaded walk and Ty Acker knotted things at six with a two-out, two-run single to center.
The Buff & Blue moved back ahead with another two-out hit in the eighth, this one a two-bagger from DiTomaso to push in front, 8-6. Niagara countered with a two-out, two-run hit of its own in the top of the ninth, knotting the game before Micheletti's heroics in extra innings.
Micheletti finished the day a homer shy of the cycle, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two walks. The top of the order produced most of the offense with Gates going 3-for-5 with four runs scored out of the leadoff spot and DiTomaso going 2-for-5 with two RBI in the two hole.
Chris Knight earned the win with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief, escaping jams in both the ninth and the 10th.
GW will look to win the series on Saturday with first pitch scheduled at 1 p.m.
