DiTomaso blasts grand slam, Kohn collects three doubles
Maine scored in five of its first six at-bats, taking a 4-0 lead seven batters into the game and not looking back. The lead grew to as many as 13 after the Black Bears posted two in the second, four in the fourth, a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth.
GW's offense was held in check by Maine starter Blaine Cockburn, who limited the Buff & Blue to a run on two hits in five innings with five strikeouts. Brett Young plated the only run against Cockburn with an RBI groundout in the second.
The Colonials' offense got to work against the Maine bullpen, scoring seven runs in the home half of the seventh. Steve DiTomaso cranked a grand slam, his first long ball of the year, as part of the effort.
Later in the inning, Michael Kohn cranked a three-run double for his third three-bagger of the game. Kohn finished the day with the three knocks, three batted in and scored twice.
GW will remain at home this weekend when it welcomes Niagara to The Tuck. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m. followed by a 1 p.m. start on Saturday and noon first pitch on Sunday.
