Colonial hurler becomes first to go full nine innings since 2020
ARLINGTON, Va. - GW baseball utilized a tremendous pitching performance from Chris Kahler to earn a doubleheader split with visiting Fairfield on Saturday. Behind Kahler's efforts, GW won the first game, 4-2, before falling in the nightcap, 15-2.

Kahler needed 137 pitches to go the distance in GW's first nine-inning complete game since Justin Solt in March 2020. Making just his second career start, the Coral Springs, Fla., native yielded two runs on six hits while striking out a career-high eight and walking one.
The junior retired nine of the first 10 batters he faced before giving up the only two runs in the fourth inning. From there, he locked in to keep the Stags at bay. The first two runners reached in the seventh inning, but Kahler struck out two of the next three hitters to keep GW in front.
He then set the side down in order and worked around a one-out single in the ninth to finish off his first win of the year.
The Buff & Blue provided all the offense for Kahler in the first three innings. Bryan Belo got the scoring started with a two-run double in the last of the second. Sam Gates added on with a sacrifice fly.
An inning later, Noah Levin launched his second dinger of the year to stake GW to a 4-0 cushion. Levin, Belo and Eddie Micheletti provided multi-hit games in the opener.

Things did not fare as well for the Buff & Blue in the rubber match of the series as the Stags scored in each of their first five at-bats and rolled to the series victory.
Fairfield scored once in the first and once in the second against GW starter Austin Odell before blowing things open with three in the third, three in the fourth and another in the fifth.
The Colonials got on the board via a two-run double from Michael Kohn in the last of the sixth, but the Stags responded with six in the seventh.
GW will now hit the road for its next five contests, starting with a trip to James Madison on Tuesday. First pitch from Harrisonburg, Va., is scheduled for 3 p.m.
