Buff & Blue entertain Stags for three-game set at the Tuck
WASHINGTON - GW baseball is back in action at Tucker Field this weekend, welcoming in Fairfield for a three-game series. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. followed by a Sunday doubleheader beginning at 11am. Sunday's first game will air live on ESPN+.
OUT OF THE GATES HOT: Sophomore Sam Gates has burst onto the scene in his initial campaign with the Buff & Blue, batting a team-leading .571 through four games. Gates was a perfect 3-of-3 at the dish on Wednesday vs. UMES, scoring four runs and driving in three. He has also homered in consecutive games heading into the weekend set.
ON THE BUMP: GW got solid starting pitching performances from its top two starters last weekend against a top-15 foe. Logan Koester got the opening day nod and allowed just a run on three hits in four innings while Chris Kahler tossed 5.1 sparkling frames with six punchouts. The duo will look to replicate their outings on the bump this weekend.
ABOUT THE STAGS: Fairfield went 1-2 in its opening weekend tournament at Coastal Carolina, falling to the host Chanticleers (14-7) and VCU (10-3) before bouncing back with a 14-9 win vs. Middle Tennessee. The Stags hit nine home runs and batted .304 as a team in the three-game series.
